[Gwangyang, South Jeolla] Delivery Story: Papa 4, a Four-Wheeled Electric Vehicle to Support Seniors Every Day

Hello, this is Lohwell SM.

During the season when fresh green buds begin to sprout, we visited Bonggang-myeon, Gwangyang-si, South Jeolla.

We visited a village near Bonggang Nonghyup, where the breeze from the foothills of Baekunsan and charming stone-wall paths warmly welcomed us.

What reached us first was the heartfelt gesture of a child who prepared this vehicle for their parents, who had been suffering from aching legs while working in the fields and going out around the village.

Although we may still have much to learn, we carry the determination to do our very best and gradually make up for what is lacking, with the same care we would give our own parents

as we visited together with the four-wheeled electric vehicle Papa 4 (PAPA 4), entrusted with supporting the daily lives of seniors in Gwangyang.

An Exciting Arrival and Safe Unloading

After passing the Gwangyang Nonghyup Bonggang Branch, the delivery truck arrived in front of the senior's home and storage shed.

We carefully released the vehicle restraints and safely unloaded the highly visible yellow Papa 4 onto the ground.

The senior, who had come out to the yard to greet us,

It’s much sturdier and more impressive than it looked on TV or in pictures!

they said, welcoming us warmly.

They smiled brightly as they personally touched the large wide tires, which help reduce slipping on dirt or unpaved roads, and the roof (canopy), which provides shade from the sun.

One-on-One Operating Instructions at the Senior’s Level

No matter how good a vehicle is, it becomes a truly thoughtful gift only when seniors can operate it comfortably themselves.
We patiently explained everything at their side until the controls became completely familiar.

Intuitive dial-style gear operation:

We explained how to easily switch between forward (D), neutral (N), and reverse (R) by turning the dial instead of using complicated levers.

Foot-operated brake and accelerator pedals:

Together, we practised the pedal positions, which are the same as in a car, and how to start smoothly.

Everyday convenience features:

We went over each feature, including the cup holder for drinks when going out around the village, the audio/USB ports for listening to the radio or music while working in the fields, and the key-on system.

Warning Beacon & Lights for Safety:

To ensure that nearby vehicles and pedestrians can easily see the vehicle even on cloudy days or around sunset,
we carefully checked how to turn on the orange safety beacon on the roof and the front LED headlights.

I was worried because I’m not very good at handling machines, but it’s much easier to operate than I expected!

they said, nodding.

Test Drive on Village and Field Roads

After learning how to operate the vehicle, we took it for a real test drive along the narrow road in front of the house and a gentle slope.

With wide tires, it moved steadily over bumpy dirt roads and unpaved farm paths, reducing jolts and shaking.

As the elderly driver gently turned the steering wheel and came around the curve, the family members watching nearby finally breathed a sigh of relief and applauded.

They were delighted that they could transport heavy bags of fertiliser and crops in the spacious cargo bed instead of carrying them while walking.

Supporting a safe daily life for seniors

Dear senior residents of Gwangyang, you no longer need to carry heavy loads until your legs hurt. We hope you can travel safely to work in the fields and visit your neighbours comfortably with Papa 4.
